Couples Therapy

Couple holding hands and talking in a cozy setting.

Relationships can be beautiful, complicated, and sometimes overwhelming. Whether you're preparing for marriage, navigating conflict, rebuilding trust, or trying to feel connected again, every relationship goes through seasons of change. Sometimes, having a supportive space to work through those challenges can make a meaningful difference.

At Inner Peace Therapy, we believe healthy relationships begin with understanding, communication, and respect for each person's needs. Couples therapy offers an opportunity to slow down, better understand one another, and work toward a relationship that feels more connected, supportive, and fulfilling.

Meet Kera Sanford: Certified Integrative Sex and Couples Therapist

Kera Sanford, LMSW, is a certified integrative sex and couples therapist who offers virtual therapy to individuals and couples throughout Michigan. Kera provides an affirming, nonjudgmental space where partners can explore relationship concerns, strengthen communication, and work toward meaningful change together.

Kera recognizes that every relationship has its own story, values, and challenges. Her integrative approach honors the individuality of each partner while helping couples explore the patterns, experiences, and expectations that shape their relationship.

What Can Couples Therapy Help With?

Kera works with couples navigating a variety of relationship experiences, including:

  • Premarital counseling: Prepare for marriage by discussing expectations, communication, finances, intimacy, family dynamics, and shared goals.
  • Marital counseling: Work through recurring disagreements, emotional distance, trust concerns, and challenges that arise throughout marriage.
  • Ethical non-monogamy (ENM): Explore communication, agreements, boundaries, jealousy, and relationship dynamics in consensually non-monogamous relationships.
  • Kink-affirming relationship support: Discuss intimacy, desires, consent, boundaries, and communication in a respectful, judgment-free environment.
  • Infertility and reproductive challenges: Navigate the emotional impact of infertility, fertility treatment, and differing experiences or feelings surrounding family building.
  • Parenting and co-parenting: Work through parenting disagreements, family transitions, and the challenges of balancing individual needs with family responsibilities.
  • Domestic violence and relationship safety: Explore relationship concerns with attention to safety, autonomy, and individual needs. When abuse or coercive control is present, individual support and specialized safety planning may be more appropriate than joint couples sessions.

A Space Where Every Relationship Can Be Heard

You don't have to wait until a relationship reaches a breaking point to seek support. Couples therapy can help you recognize patterns, communicate more openly, understand each other's perspectives, and decide how you want to move forward.

Kera takes an affirming approach that respects diverse relationship structures, identities, and experiences. Whether you're planning a future together, navigating a difficult season, or exploring questions about intimacy and connection, therapy offers space to have conversations that may feel difficult to begin on your own.

The goal isn't to assign blame or decide who is right. It's to help you better understand what's happening in your relationship and explore healthier ways to communicate, set boundaries, and work toward your goals.
